The Story of Spiritualism: A Movement of Spirit and Meaning

Spiritualism was born out of a longing—for truth, connection, and reassurance that love does not end at death. The movement took root in the 1840s, when two young sisters in New York—Margaret and Kate Fox—claimed to receive messages from Spirit through mysterious “rappings.”

What followed was a tidal wave of curiosity, hope, and deep spiritual reflection. Churches were formed, mediums began to develop, and people from all walks of life began to explore the idea that the soul continues after death—and can communicate with us.

Unlike traditional religions, Spiritualism has no fixed doctrine. It’s a religion of evidence, experience, and personal truth. It’s grown, adapted, and deepened over time—yet its heart remains the same: Spirit is real, life continues, and love never dies.
